October - Architecture month

20 October 2020

This October, we attended and presented at two architectural events. We participated in the Arhikult conference at Brdo near Kranj as a Gold sponsor, and also sponsored Architect Day a few days later, organized by the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia in the Museum of Architecture and Design.

The Chamber organises the Arhikult conference every year to promote architecture. The main topics relate to architecture, culture and public spaces. It includes various lectures that cover timely themes, which are given by renowned experts from various fields. Cirila Colnar Mikeln, who is responsible for research and development of decorative coatings in the Helios Group, spoke this year. Her lecture covered the properties of interior wall paints and the EN 13 300 standard. The programme ended with announcements and the Arhikult awards, which are made in the architectural categories of buildings, renovations, interiors and public areas. During the conference, the lobby was used to exhibit manufacturers’ materials and construction and architecture equipment.

This year, Architect Day was a virtual event. Participants tuned into the virtual symposium on the International Story of Slovenian Architecture through an online platform. Miha Dešman gave the introductory remarks and was followed by several speakers who gave their individual perspective on this year's topic:

Boris Bežan; Studio BAX

Tina Javornik; V+

Tomaž Krušec Lena Krušec; Krušec architecture

Špela Videčnik; OFIS architects

Boštjan Vuga; Sadar+Vuga

The symposium was followed by an awards ceremony for 2020’s greatest achievements in architecture, landscape architecture and spatial planning. The Platinum Pencil, Golden Pencil and Honorary Member awards were presented.

An exhibition of the architectural projects submitted for this year's awards was opened as part of the event. The event sponsors, including Helios, were also exhibited.

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, most future events have been canceled or will take place virtually, so it meant a lot for this conferences to go ahead.
